  • Under the Table and Drumming DVD – The master piece that introduced many musicians to one of the world’s best drummers. After seeing this video, even DMB haters grudgingly give props to the backbone of Dave Matthews Band. The link will take you to an Amazon page with detailed reviews describing the different DMB songs Carter plays and the unreleased DMB video footage. (the footage includes an INCREDIBLE Two Step ending). A must have for drummers and DMB fans a-like.
  • Sheet music to Carter Beauford’s Under the Table and Drumming DVD – I bought Under the Table and Drumming on VHS and it came with two booklets of sheet music with various exercises and songs that Carter played on the video. However, I don’t know if the DVD comes with the sheet music, so if you buy the DVD and don’t get it or just want to jump right into practicing some of Carter’s riffs, then you can pick up the sheet music here.

  • Carter Beauford interview with Modern Drummer in 1998 – A great interview that starts off with the editor of Modern Drummer giving Carter a musical cue during his performance of “Say Goodbye” in his Under the Table and Drumming DVD (an amazing performance that all drummers must see). In this interview, Carter discusses various sources of inspiration like Rolling Stones’ Charlie Watts (he’s a bad, bad boy!) James Brown’s Clyde Stubblefield and even getting ideas from Tony, Toni, Tone! (one of my favorite groups too ;) ). A short interview but you definitely gain insight into how and why the band’s sound changed when they recorded Before These Crowded Streets
  • Carter Beauford Cyberdrum interview – After touching on history a bit, the interviewer then digs into the Dave Matthews Band writing process and the state of their current tour. This his article contains the famous exchange:

    Interviewer: Are you completely ambidextrous?
    Carter Beauford: Yeah, Yeah.
    Interviewer: Damn you.

Carter goes on to discuss some more of his drum hardware, influences and idols. And, of course the interview ends with some advice for new players and young musicians just getting started.

  • Carter Beauford’s Yamaha All Access Interview in 2003 – This interview occurred right around the release of Busted Stuff, so much of the discussion focuses on it. They also touch on Carter’s past, his family life, his influences, his kit and make a bit of commentary on today’s music. I really like the analogy Carter makes between learning to play music and baking a cake. Also, I found his discussion of how different producers record his drums particularly interesting.
  • Carter Beauford’s interview with Rhythm Magazine in 2007 – Despite being a more recent interview, the interviewer still takes us through some of Carter’s legendary history. Carter takes a moment to describe playing a jazz gig with some of his Dad’s friends when only 9 years old. Carter goes on to talk about how he (like his fans) believe that the live concerts provide the best showcase for Dave Matthews Band’s talent. He and the interviewer also have a fascinating back and forth on the dynamism behind the onstage jams. The interview ends with Carter picking his top five Dave Matthews Band songs. Some songs surprised me, but Two Step wasn’t one of them. ;)
  • Carter Beauford Interview Archive – Looks like the guy that runs BeaufordBuddy cut and pasted a bunch of interviews on this page.
  • Carter Beauford and Dave Matthews make intern star-struck – Not an interview, but a quick story about an interview. Apparently, Dave and Carter make this MTV intern’s day.
